Privacy - Our Code of Conduct

It is hugely important to the Project Consortium that users of ConnectInLaterLife are safe and protected in terms of their online social networking activities. In conjunction with older people across Europe, we have developed a Code of Conduct for users which defines a set of socially accepted behaviours when using the site. The main objective of the Code of Conduct is to promote a higher standard of practice within our social networking environment. Our code of conduct will not resolve problems or constrain people’s individual freedoms as it is intended to be a set of regulations that will encourage good relations, safe communication and effective governance within our online community.

The ConnectInLaterLife Code of Conduct promotes the following:

Respect: all website users are expected to behave and treat others with respect and dignity

Respect difference of opinion: communicating in a multicultural environment, with varied life experiences and backgrounds might uncover differences that should be either integrated in a positive fashion or discouraged.

Avoid controversial topics of conversation: do not voice opinions that might lead to irreconcilable arguments and might create an unpleasant environment.

Avoid all sorts of sexual harassment conducts: by avoiding comments on sexual activity, narrating adult and sexual jokes.

Adopt email etiquette: greeting the other before and after you announce a message, avoid writing in capital letters, using improper language or using abbreviated words that might be unfamiliar to the receiver of the message, this will avoid any confusion and misunderstanding. Keeping a message clear and polite will guarantee the effectiveness of communication.

Adopt online and real meeting etiquette: respecting the other’s voice and timing, allowing each user to present one’s point of view, opinion or idea will contribute to a sound communication environment. Avoid interrupting the other but always remember to take into consideration the length of one’s own contribution, so everybody gets a chance to voice their thoughts.

Openness: website users must deal with each other in an open, honest and respectful fashion.

Decision-making: website users will keep themselves from exercising undue authority, influence or pressure on decisions.

Conflict management: conflict will always be dealt with in a rational and timely manner.
